The Sabine Street Bridge at Buffalo Bayou never looks lovelier than each fall when a party tent is set up on the bridge and surrounding walkways are lighted and decorated for the annual Buffalo Bayou Partnership gala. For the record, this party offers one of the best nighttime views of the bayou and the downtown skyline.

A record crowd of 650 gathered along the bayou walkways and beneath the soaring party tent to salute the evening's honoree Mark Cover, Hines CEO Southwest Division and a former BBP board member.

That record crowd meant record proceeds of $500,000, a figure reached in no small part due to the efforts of gala chairs George Lancaster and Marley Lott. Contributing to the stellar fundraising was artist Barbara Hines (who happens to be married to Hines founder Gerald Hines), who contributed to the auction a rich impressionistic painting of the bayou. As generous high bidder Brady Carruth was the lucky guy taking the painting home.

Celebrating the beautiful bayou were the Hineses, Nancy and Rich Kinder, Susie and Sanford Criner, Minnette and Peter Boesel, Gayle and Bob Eury, Anne and Peter Brown, U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Parks director Joe Turner, Houston First director Dawn Ullrich and board chair Ric Campo, Lorraine and Ed Wulfe, Jill and Dunham JewettJo and Jim Furr and BBP executive director Anne Olson.
