What's Eric Eating Episodes 374 and 374
Meet the man helping Alex Bregman launch a salsa brand, plus our visit to Late August
On this week’s episode of “What’s Eric Eating,” Michael Posey joins CultureMap food editor to discuss Wild Sol, the salsa company started by Reagan and Alex Bregman. In his role as CEO, Posey oversees taking the couple’s ideas and turning them into reality.
The conversation begins with Posey explaining how he met Alex Bregman and began working with him. From there, he explains how Wild Sol evolved out of the Breggy Bomb brand.
Currently available in four flavors — Mild, Spicy, Salsa Verde, and Mango Habanero — Posey explains that Wild Sol aims to distinguish itself from existing salsa brands in a couple of key ways. First, it contains less tomato and more chiles. Second, each flavor incorporates Flecha Azul Tequila, which is a brand owned by actor Mark Wahlberg.
Sandler asks Posey about whether he thinks Astros fans will support the brand when Alex is no longer a member of the team.
“I think Alex will always be Astro, whether he’s wearing another uniform or not. He came up through the organization. He’s done a lot not only with but for the Astros. It’s been a really fun time,” Posey says.
Later, he adds, “But I think we do have to separate him from the brand if we want to be a national brand. We have to do things right.”

In this week’s other episode, Sandler and co-host Michael Fulmer discuss the news of the week. Their topics include: Gulf Coast Distillers claiming the former Buffalo Bayou Brewing location for its Tejas Beer brand; luxury steakhouse Toca Madera opening next to the Thompson Hotel; and Maven Coffee, a coffee shop and cocktail bar that opened it the Thompson Hotel’s lobby.
In the restaurants of the week segment, Fulmer and Sandler share first impressions of Late August, chef Chris Williams’ new restaurant in the Ion mixed-use development. From there, they discuss a meal at the new Memorial City location of Houston barbecue staple The Pit Room.
