Sparrow Bar + Cookshop buzzed with foodie frenzy on Monday evening as RAM and CultureMap wrapped up the Dine Around Houston Summer Series. The one-off locavore feast included big name chef Monica Pope's unforgettable vegetarian Mac & Cheese with Kale and Pickled Butternut Squash, a Persian Chicken Salad or a decadent Lamb Burger with Chickpea Fries.
The pop-up dining event was the hit of the summer, making stops at Houston hotspots Eleven XI, The Tasting Room — Uptown Park, J.BLACK'S Feel Good Kitchen & Lounge, Fusion Taco and Batanga before the finale at Sparrow.
Hand-crafted menus from local chefs sometimes sold out in mere hours, and the $12 meals benefited local nonprofits PULSE, St. Luke's Hospital's young professional group; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston; and Ronald McDonald House Houston, a nonprofit that provides a home away from home for critically ill children and their families.
More than 100 guests filed into the Midtown restaurant for the series finale to sample Pope's creations for a steal, snatching up cold drinks on the way inside from the RAMBox Cargo Management System. This lockable, lighted, drainable storage spot, which seamlessly integrates into the bed of RAM's luxury trucks, was a hit with Dine Around Houston attendees.
Once inside, David Graham from locally-based Karbach Brewing Co. was on-hand to talk about the beer pairings, which included Karbach Hopadillo IPA and crowd favorite Karbachtoberfest.
As the event came to a close and guests enjoyed dessert bites, RAM and CultureMap announced the winner of the CITYCENTRE Staycation Prize — an unforgettable date night experience that included a free night's stay at Hotel Sorella with complimentary breakfast, dinner for two at Texas de Brazil, two tickets to Studio Movie Grill and a bar tab at The Marquee.
