How to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey: Make donations, volunteer at shelters, go local

If you would like to help those affected by the storm, here's what you should keep in mind:
The Red Cross depends on financial donations to help provide immediate relief. To make a $10 or more donation to hurricane victims, text the word HARVEY to 90999. You can also head to the Red Cross' website or call 1- 800-RED CROSS.
To make a donation to the United Way Flood Relief Fund via text, type UWFLOOD and send to 41444.
Donations to support The Salvation Army's Hurricane Harvey relief efforts can be made on the organization's website or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY.
