Most women use trips to the salon as a chance to refresh and get away. Travis Player and Roi Alan, owners of Tease Color and Style Bar, want clients to really escape, and drew design inspiration from their favorite hotels and bars for their new Richmond Avenue hair salon.
“We wanted to change up the typical salon feel into a chic, social atmosphere, where you can relax and disconnect from the world,” Player says.

Gold paint seemingly drips down inky black walls, while ombre wallpaper imported from France lightens up the salon. Player and Alan worked with interior designer Dennis Brackeen, incorporating gilded touches like mirror frames and walls of golden bamboo rings hanging from the salon’s ceiling.
The design is also playful. Round navy and white lighting fixtures highlight the reception area, and pops of yellow peek from behind the cosmetic bar.
The duo spent two years culling together ideas and eight months to find just the right location. Once they located the sun-filled space on Richmond, they took just three weeks to pull the 1,000-square-foot salon together.
To add to the relaxing jet set feel, Player and Alan have also designed “A Walk in the Woods” custom fragrance for the salon, creating a scent memory for clients when visiting Tease.
“It helps with the experience and adds to the high end retail atmosphere,” Player says. A custom playlist and signature cocktail are also in the works.
Tease offers a menu of haircuts, color, shampoos, blow outs, makeup services and other beauty treatments, but another design standout is both stylish and practical. Travis and Alan installed fully reclinable shampoo chairs that are easy on the neck and comfy from top to bottom.
“We wanted a salon that was sexy, chic and fun, so that’s what we took into consideration with the design,” Player says.
Sexy, chic and fun. The exact way every woman wants to feel after time at the salon.
