Talento Bilingüe de Houston
|
Just a few miles east of downtown and adjacent to Buffalo Bayou, this Latino cultural arts center presents some of Houston’s most groundbreaking artistic events rooted in Hispanic traditions. Past happenings include “A Night of Underground Sounds” with guest band Pistolera from New York City, who rocked the house with their high energy mix of norteño, ranchera and indie-pop en Español, and then there was “Mi Bandera es La Tierra” which featured San Antonio/San Francisco Bay Area performance artists who wove stories combining poetry, video, movement, chant and indigenous instruments. Roel Flores explained his exhibition of paintings, "La Labor," as such: “For me, la musica y la labor, they go together – the music was our hope of getting out of the fields, and our inspiration to keep working. Through my paintings I would say: be proud of who you are, and where you come from.” An evening spent at Talento Bilingüe de Houston immerses you in a rich culture that is being preserved in a progressive and contemporary context.
