Veggie delivery service takes off: Local farmers see their goods delivered door to door
For those who love crisp, fresh fruits and vegetables picked at their peak of flavor but don't live on a farm, there's a Texas-based company that's making it possible to green up without breaking the bank or being woken up by a pesky croaking rooster at the crack of dawn.
The service, which includes home delivery, is the subject of Tyler Rudick's CultureMap Moment on KHOU Ch. 11 Morning News.
Greenling (read CultureMap staff writer Whitney Radley's full article here) was born out of a passion for sustainability. Owner Mason Arnold, a graduate of the University of Texas, partners with local farmers, farmers markets and businesses to offer shoppers different food bundles in an effort to facilitate getting the product in the hands of consumers.
A "Local Box" may include collard greens, broccoli, kale, beets, oranges and shallots while the "Jump Start Juicing Basket" contains apples, baby spinach, carrots, celery and Meyer lemons. The "Local Pantry Starter Box" combines eggs, Texas Pecan Rosemary Honey with spinach dip mix, olive oil and cornmeal. Clients can add dairy, meat, prepped foods and even house supplies manufactured locally.
