What: Center for Houston's Future annual Future of Leadership Luncheon.

Where: Hilton Americas-Houston.

The 411: Barbara Bush and the Rev. William Lawson were celebrated as "two of the region's most treasured and influential leaders" by 800 guests who packed the ballroom. The former first lady received the 2015 Eugene H. Vaughan Civic Leadership Award and was praised by Lawson, keynote speaker, for her passion for wanting to help children learn and her passion for reading.

Dorothy and Mickey Ables chaired the luncheon that kicked off with a stirring rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner," sung by Houston Children's Chorus.
