    BESPOKE BOOTS

Cult favorite Houston bootmaker kicks off made-to-order collection

    Gabi De la Rosa
    Apr 15, 2024 | 5:00 pm

Western wear and cowboy boots, in particular, have seen a resurgence in the past few years. What many think of as a costume or something that can only be worn for specific events has made its way into mainstream fashion. Recently, brands like Louis Vuitton and Ralph Lauren created entire collections inspired by the American West, making cowboy boots fashionable footwear worldwide.

Zephan Parker, a Houston native and the owner and founder of Parker Boot Company, doesn't follow trends. He believes that a quality product should speak for itself. His passion for the cowboy lineage from his mother's side of the family led him to a career shift. He decided to immerse himself in the cowboy boot industry, learning everything he could about it.

He began his journey in 2011 as an apprentice for Jass Boot Shop in Lampasas. Since then, he has studied under several notable bootmakers, including Dave Wheeler of Wheeler Boot Company, Ray Jones of Jass Boot Shop, and Kimmel Boot Company, before opening his shop in 2014. Parker Boot Company quickly gained a cult following by everyone from doctors to lawyers to fashion bloggers because of the craftsmanship and quality of its products.

Recently, Parker decided to make a bold move, do away with all mass-produced inventory, and focus exclusively on bespoke, custom-made boots. Parker Boot Company just launched its Made-To-Order Collection which focuses on two distinct silhouettes: the Caldwell and the Kent. The Caldwell offers a choice between a Western box toe or round toe, a ten-inch top, and a resolute Western heel, while the Kent focuses on a modern cowboy with a Western urban lifestyle.

"Houston is a special city with unique tastes, desires for expression, and personal style," Parker tells CultureMap. "From the dining scene to the second largest western rodeo in the world, we like things that give us more variety. With this desire to be different comes the need to build something bespoke and custom. The Made-To-Order option gives the client the steering wheel in design as we motor them along."

Starting at a price point of $995 to $1895 and with a lead time of between 6 to 8 months, each silhouette in the Made-To-Order Collection can be personalized in black, navy, or brown. Clients can also choose from an array of premium leathers ranging from calfskin to exotic skins.

"Our commitment to a handmade process and individuality is at the heart of everything we do, and I am proud to be a part of the community who looks to make made-to-order mainstream," said Parker. "Bespoke represents more than just a piece of clothing; it embodies a narrative of quality and value — an ethos we are eager to share with a wider audience through our bespoke program."

The Swift BLDG is expected to open in late 2026.

A new mixed-use development in the Heights has announced its next round of tenants. Three wellness businesses are coming to The Swift BLDG, Houston developers Radom Capital and Triten Real Estate Partners’ project in the historic Swift & Company Packing Plant that’s located near the Heights Hike & Bike Trail.

    They are:
    • SweatHouz, a contrast therapy studio
    • Strong Pilates Studio
    • The Skin Clinic, a Houston-based aesthetics and skincare destination

Scheduled to open in winter 2026, SweatHouz will offer infrared saunas, cold plunges, and other protocols to improve a person’s well-being. The protocols are focused on areas such as athletic recovery, reducing stress, improving circulation, mental health, and longevity. In addition, it will offer a beauty bar equipped with Dyson hot tolls and a beverage station stocked with different waters.

Building on the success of its Katy location that opened last year, Strong Pilates Studio will occupy 2,500 square feet in the Swift BLDG. Using Rowformer and Bikeformer machines, customers have the opportunity to take classes in Strong Body, Strong Loaded, and Strong Pilates-Only. It’s expected to open in the fall.

“Our method blends strength, cardio, and reformer-based training into one, delivering real results in just 45 minutes. This isn’t just Pilates — it’s a new standard for fitness in Houston. And a community that sweats together stays strong,” franchisee Mona Hussein-Zaki said in a statement.

Currently located in M-K-T, the Skin Clinic will more than double its footprint by relocated to the Swift BLDG. The clinic’s services focus on skin health and rejuvenation. It also expected to open in the fall.

“The response from this community has been incredible, and Swift gives us the room to grow into what our patients have been asking for: more space, more services, and the same patient-centered care that got us here." founder Kelli Nwuli said.

All three businesses join previously announced tenants such as Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, premium juice bar Leemoo, Merit Coffee, and Houston Tex-Mex staple Escalante’s.

On track to open to the public in fall 2026, The Swift BLDG will offer more than 30,000 square feet of office space along with 30,000 square feet of restaurant and retail tenants. The two companies previously partnered on M-K-T, the Heights mixed-use development that’s near the Swift project. Radom is known for a number of other Houston developments, including the Montrose Collective and the historic Tower Theater property and its adjacent buildings.
