On the surface, you might have thought that this black-tie dinner at River Oaks Country Club was a baseball event what with College Baseball Hall of Famer Wayne Graham honored along with his wife, Tanya. And with Lancc Berkman and wife Cara as honorary chairs, you wouldn't be blamed for thinking baseball.
But this night was a fundraiser hosted by the Friends of Fondren Library on the Rice campus. This formal marriage of baseball and books was all about the strength of community on the Rice campus.
Adding to the baseball clout were MLB players and their spouses including Anne Marie and Chris Kolkhorst, Jose Cruz, Jr., Maria and Paul Janish, Jennifer and Joe Savery, Sarah and Tyler Duffey, Kimberly and Austin Davis, Coble and Jeff Jorgensen, Erin and Vincent Sinisi, and Analisa and Kyle Frazier.
More than 360 attended the evening chaired by Karen and Larry George.
Among guests were Y. Ping Sun and David Leebron, Bucky Allshouse, Linda and Walter McReynolds, Laura Bellows and Jack Pendergrast, Sofia Adrogué and Sten Gustafson, Phoebe and Bobby Tudor, Bess and Matt Wareing, Sonali and Rakesh Agrawal, Ginger Blanton, and Barbara and David Gibbs.
