By analyzing U.S. Census data from the American Community Survey, the Chronicle determined the Top 10 wealthiest zip codes in the state of Texas. The rankings are based on average income — adjusted for inflation — from 2008 to 2012 American Community Survey five-year estimates.

Houston's own West University (77005) topped the wealthiest Texas zip code list with an average household income of $240,151.

Three other Houston area zip codes were featured on the list including Bellaire (77401) at No. 6 with an average household income of $202,735, the Katy area/Energy Corridor (77094) at No. 8 with an average household income of $199,805, and the Memorial area (77024) at No. 9 with an average household income of $197,090.

Houston's own West University (77005) topped the wealthiest Texas zip code list with an average household income of $240,151.

The Houston area's actual No. 1 wealthiest zip code is 77010 in downtown with an average income of $297,695, but the area was omitted from the list as it did not represent a residential area.

Other top Texas zip codes included University Park (75225) at No. 2 with an average household income of $224,787 and Southlake (76092) at No. 3 with an average household income of $222,655, both located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan statistical area. In total, four Dallas area area zip codes were featured on the list, including Highland Park (75205) at No. 5 and Colleyville (76034) at No. 7.

San Antonio (78257) came in at No. 4 and Austin's West Lake Hills area (78746) rounded out the list at No. 10.
