Philomena Gabriel Contemporary (closed/relocated)
|
Renamed the Zoya Tommy Contemporary, Philomena Gabriel has moved to 4411 Montrose Blvd., phone 713-523-7424.
--------------
Founded in 2009, PG's exhibitions reflect the fascinating culture and offer competing ideas about contemporary art in the United States and the Caribbean. Owner Zoya Tommy is an artist herself, holding a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from University of Houston. After a series of pop-up exhibitions at local galleries, Tommy set up shop in 2010. The gallerist has featured Texas artists such as Paul Kittelson and Robert Jackson Harrington, along with Trinidadian Emilie Upczak and former Core Fellow and Whitney Biennial participant, Argentinian painter Santiago Cucullu.
The name of PG Contemporary comes from an initial of the owner's middle name with her late father's given one.
