Memorial Park

Once the backyard and private grounds of Houston’s legendary civic leader Miss Ima Hogg, (yes, that was her name and nobody knows why she never changed it) the secret of Memorial Park is its vast size. Thousands of live oaks shade 1,500 acres and line dozens of trails and paths, winding their way throughout the park It's impossible to tell how expansive the area is from any of the various street approaches. You’ll always see a parade of joggers along one of the most popular paths that borders Memorial Drive, but in the recesses of this botanical beauty are courts and fields of every shape and size.  From croquet and tennis to rugby, softball, volleyball and soccer, it’s all here. The Houston Audubon society and the Ornithological club both have their headquarters here beneath the shady canopy of trees, and there’s also a challenging 18-hole golf course. Memorial Park also specializes in the perfect trail. Trails of every size, shape and paving meander and merge for maximum benefit of runners, walkers, hikers, mountain bikers, horse riders, and rollerbladers.
