JR's

For years, JR's has been the premier meet-and-greet place for the gay community — and even some straight men have figured out that it's the place to go to score since nearly every gay man brings his best girlfriend there at some point and there's no competition. The place is usually packed but it's so large that everyone has some breathing room. (Longtimers remember when it was actually two bars: JR's and Santa Fe, before owner Charles Armstrong merged it into one.) The layout is perfect for a long walk around to check everyone out while they do the same. The daily drink specials make for some great deals, and the amateur strip contests and karaoke nights always make for some rowdy fun. The music doesn't totally drown out any attempt at conversation, should you actually attempt to have one before you take whomever you have your eye on home for the rest of the night — and maybe forever. We can always dream, can't we? 

The back patio is a nice change of pace.
