Rothko Chapel presents Summer Sounds on the Plaza: Walagante
Walagante is a Houston-based ensemble, performing Garifuna music from Central America, a culture primarily on the Caribbean coast, descended from West African, Central African, Island Caribbean and Arawak people. Drums and maracas are central to this musical style, which was declared a "Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" by UNESCO in 2001.
The performance is a continuation of the Chapel’s Summer Sounds on the Plaza series.
Refreshments will be available at the concert, with Sweetcup selling gelato and free beer from Saint Arnold Brewing Company.
