Art opening reception: Proj-ekt; Pruh-jekt by Wendy Niziol
Aker Imaging Gallery's inaugural show features the work of Wendy Niziol, who is a nationally known architectural designer with HOK in Houston. Proj-ekt; Pruh-jekt is a series of diptych's inspired by a person crossing in front of a projector. The dynamic color and motion on the person's flesh created a realization that by projecting a series of iconic photographs of famous personalities onto everyday people, one could create for each person a moment in time that gives them their own "15 minutes of fame".
The idea of the diptych was in response to the contrast between the contradictory personalities of the chosen subjects who happen to share a commonality through their names. Each shot is carefully staged to allow interplay between the live model and the image — unmasking the hidden celebrity we all possess.
