Art Opening Reception and Talk: Texas Master Series: Piero Fenci — Battlement and Interstitial Spaces: Julia Barello & Beverly Penn
|
The fourth show in Houston Center for Contemporary Craft's Texas Masters Series, awarded to established career artists working in Texas who have made a significant impact in the craft field, features Piero Fenci — Battlement.
Fenci's work has roots in the underlying craft tradition of functionality while exploring the sculptural and conceptual realm of contemporary ceramics. The selection highlights the variety of interests and influences in the artist's work, ranging from traditional origami and Japanese armor of the Muromachi period to Shaker hatboxes and tinware.
Interstitial Spaces: Julie Barello & Beverly Penn consists of various plants and foliage created from X-rays, MRI film and cast bronze. The exhibition features two artists who share a background in metalsmithing and an interest in creating large-scale wall installations from small, sometimes delicate, pieces referencing flora and fauna.
Artist talks are at 5:30 p.m. A reception follows from 6 to 8 p.m. On view through Sept. 1.
