All aboard? Paula Deen's Galveston cruise includes a pajama dessert party & DeenOlympics
I've never been on one, but everyone says you gain five pounds on a cruise because all you do is eat. So I'm a little afraid of what a Paula Deen cruise would be like.
No matter, celebrity chef and diabetes spokesperson Paula Deen is hosting her own cruise with Royal Caribbean originating in Galveston and stopping in Roatan, Honduras; Belize City, Belize; and Cozumel from Jan. 27 through Feb. 3. Passage for the seven-night affair starts at $1,477 for two people.
It's Deen's third time hosting a cruise with her sons. She's not exactly alone among celebrity chefs in getting into the cruise business — Marcus Samuelsson, Jacques Pépin, Nobu Matsuhita and Charlie Palmer have all opened signature restaurants on cruise ships or created signature dishes or menus for cruise lines.
While cruises with famous people generally include musical acts (New Kids on the Block, Pitbull, KISS, Train) there's also a market for actors and personalities from Wil Wheaton to Rosie O'Donnell to Kate Gosselin to Richard Simmons. Why not Paula Deen?
Guests get a welcome pajama dessert party with Paula, a Super Bowl party with Paula's boys, a Q&A session with the lady herself, a barbecue on the final night that includes a private cocktail party and a chance to watch the "Annual Deen Family Olympics," among other special events and freebies.
