The New General Manager
A new take on the dine and dash: Impersonator cooks his own meal at Denny's andflees
Some people know no boundaries.
Take James Summers of Madison, Wis., who interpreted Denny's "America's diner is always open" slogan much too literally. The man entered a local restaurant on Tuesday afternoon and prepared his own meal — but didn't get away scot-free, of course.
The official incident report highlights the hilarity of the situation:
He never announced he was one of the pros from Dover, but the briefcase toting gentleman wearing a maroon tie and long back trench coat was quite clear: He had been sent by corporate. He claimed he was the new general manager, that he had worked for the restaurant chain for 30-years and was starting his new job — right now.
As the story goes, after a "nose to nose" with the manager on duty, Summers proceeded to the kitchen, where he poured his own soda and grilled himself up a cheeseburger and French fries. While Summers dined, the manager called 911, and police apprehended the perp as he was exiting the parking lot.
Officers found a stun gun on his belt and, as the AP reported, crack pipes in his briefcase.
Summers was arrested for fraud hotel or restaurant keeper, possession of an electric weapon, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia.
When an officer escorted him from the restaurant, Summers yelled, "This is why you don’t dine and dash kiddies."
