Supporters quickly raise $50,000 in brief appeal at Medical Bridges gala

The 411: More than 300 guests turned out in support of the non-profit that recovers medical surplus and distributes to hospitals and health care providers in countries where the need is great for these otherwise discarded medical supplies.
The evening was chaired by Dr. Kelli Cohen Fein and Barbara Van Postman with Margaret Alkek Williams serving as honorary chair. In an astonishingly brief appeal, the crowd committed $50,000 to the cause, in addition to the funds raised through ticket sales, auction and raffle.
Mary Ann and David McKeithan were recognized as community honorees while Helping Hand for Relief and Development received the Dr. David Wray Award for volunteering and Cameron earned corporate honoree status for its continued support of Medical Bridges.
Guest speaker was Michael Ascoli, founder and president of Asociación Amigos Pro Obras Sociales from Guatemala.
