With all due respect to Tyson Cole and Uchi, the most anticipated Austin import this year is a little more laid back.
Torchy's Tacos opens its first Houston location Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. in the former Greatfull Taco space on S. Shepherd, and the excitement is already building.
Torchy's was overwhelmed with requests for invites to the grand opening party on Tuesday night, delaying winner notification as it sifted through declarations of love like "If I ever decide to become the fattest man alive it will be done with only the assistance of @TorchyTaco." Torchy's even called it "the biggest taco party we've thrown," on Facebook.
Are there that many displaced Austinites in Houston, or is the Torchy's lore so great that even virgins are tingling with anticipation for a Democrat (beef barbacoa, avocado, queso fresco, cilanto, onions and lime with tomatillo on a corn tortilla) or a Trashy Trailer Park (fried chicken, green chiles, queso, and pico de gallo on a flour tortilla with poblano sauce)?
Torchy's fans, are you planning on visiting during opening day? And what's your order?
