Just because we're grown-ups doesn't mean we've stopped craving sugary cereals. Now, one of our favorite kiddie foods has been turned into a crazy-inventive brunch item at Bosscat Kitchen & Libations.
The colorful, Instagram-worthy Fruity Pebbles French Toast is likely to keep you longing for Saturday morning cartoons — if you can sit still from the sugar rush.
Buttery pieces of bread are dipped in egg-custard batter, rolled in Fruity Pebbles, the classic breakfast cereal, and topped with crispy bacon, sweet condensed milk and fresh berries. Executive chef Peter Petro says of his creation, “I wanted to do something fun. I like cereal and French toast, so I put them together. I added berries to this dish to make it healthy, ha!”
The cost: $14 for a Texas-sized serving that is so sweet you're likely to split it with others at your table unless you want to hog it to yourself.
Fruity Pebbles French Toast is available on the brunch menu (Sunday; 11 am - 4 pm) that kicks off this weekend at Bosscat Kitchen (4310 Westheimer Road, Suite 150). DJ Eno will get the party started with a high-energy mix of spins, from throwback hits to Top 40, hip hop, and dance.
