A Montrose staple is venturing downtown.

Niko Niko's, which has slowly expanded its empire of gyros on Montrose Boulevard since 1977, will be opening its first expansion location with a restaurant kiosk in the revamped Market Square Park. The new Niko's is scheduled to debut with the park in late summer.

The sidewalk café-style eatery will feature a pared down menu of picnic-friendly foods like gyros, shish kabobs, hummus and chicken avgolemono soup, as well as coffees, desserts, and the first-ever Niko Niko's breakfast of Greek yogurts and honeys, cheese pies, egg pitas, and bougatsa (a custard-filled pastry with powdered sugar).

"Everybody knows that we donʼt expand quickly. For our company, this is right,” Niko Niko's owner Dimitrios Fetokakis said.
