Houston-area families looking for affordable homes and top-notch schools have a great option in their own backyard. That's according to a new report from HomeUnion, which identifies the 30 best places in America for families to live.
The real estate investment firm included the most affordable ZIP code in 30 metro areas where the average school rating was in the 80th percentile or higher.
The 77450 ZIP code in the suburb of Katy ranks No. 12 on the list. It has a school rating of 81.2 and a median home price of $239,500 says HomeUnion.
Two other Texas submarkets join Katy on the list. The 78225 ZIP Code in the San Antonio suburb of Cross Mountain ranks No. 15, and 78717 in Williamson County, north of Austin, ranks No. 19.
“As home prices continue to increase in many coastal markets, particularly in the western U.S., we are seeing the best opportunities for first-time homebuyers with families in the center of the country," says Steve Hovland, director of research.
The No. 1 market for the second year in a row is Blue Springs, Missouri, near Kansas City.
