The Lowdown

This opulent, 437,500-square-foot facility featuring two theaters, the Alice and George Brown Theater and the Roy and Lillie Cullen Theater, is the performance home of the Houston Grand Opera, the Houston Ballet, and Da Camera. Its two venues together comprise over 3,500 seats. Completed at a time when the city was struggling through the 1980s oil bust, the Wortham was funded completely by private donations to the tune of $66 million.
