Straits

Straits is hard to define. On one hand the South Asian, particularly Singaporean, flavors and sauces are amazing (we particularly loved the coconut shrimp fried rice and the green chili sauce), even though the spice level has been toned down for American palettes. On the other, the dishes have a habit of coming out overcooked—ever tried tough lobster? The patio and private room areas are comfortable and gorgeous, but the general seating is rather crowded and trades in a sense of exotic refinement for a clubby vibe, complete with scantily-clad bar servers, top 40 music and a unisex bathroom area we dubbed "club toilet" for its overwhelming hot pink lights. Maybe with practice and some direction the kinks can be worked out, but right now Straits is trying a bit too hard.
