As Penn and Teller would attest, a secret once revealed loses its magic. So we don’t want to know how the chefs at Soma create their ambitious Franco-Japanese fusion cuisine—we just want to sit back and be amazed by their culinary wizardry. In the restaurant’s transporting cocoa-and-ruby-colored dining room, patrons sample sashimi, tempura and sushi presented from chefs with lots of tricks up their sleeves. Whitefish supported by a bed of tomato and onion salsa and fresh tuna crowned with toasted garlic chips are two of our favories. Try the awesome torched scallop specialty roll. It's stuffed with king crab, smelt fish roe and jalepeños and topped with torched scallop shiro yuzu, salsa, avocado, and cilantro. Yum.
Located along the trendy Washington Ave. cooridor, Soma draws a buzzy crowd, overwhelmingly comprised of the young and the relentlessly hip. They come for the scene, the show and most of all, for the food.
