Lawndale Art Center
|
If you're still in the mood to party on the day after Halloween (we always feel separation anxiety when we have to hang up our costumes for another year) head to Lawndale Art Center for Día de los Muertos, one of the funkiest annual celebrations in town that puts a wild twist on the traditional Mexican holiday. While a great party spot, Lawndale primarily serves as a nonprofit alternative space for the exhibition of contemporary works in all media, with a focus on Houston artists. Housed in an Art Deco building in Midtown, Lawndale has four galleries and annually hosts 20 exhibitions, informal talks and special events. The crowd here is a mix of bohemians, the social set and art patrons who are anxious to see the work of the new, hot artists in town. The Lawndale Design Fair is a can't-miss annual event for design junkies.
