Houston Museum of Natural Science
The imposing Brachiosaurus and Tyrannosaurus Rex skeletons in the front exhibition hall of this giant complex give you a signal from the get-go: this is going to be awesome. The Museum of Natural Science is packed with fun, interactive learning activities for kids and fascinating permanent and traveling exhibits such as the remains of the world-renowned "Lucy" and the famous Terra Cotta warriors from China.
It’s also home to hundreds of thousands of live butterflies housed in the Cockrell Butterfly Center, the Burke Baker Planetarium (don't miss the laser show!) the Lester and Sue Smith Gem Vault and an IMAX theatre. It’s a big family destination but we love when they stay open late on Fridays for "Mixers and Elixirs," where the young intelligentsia mix, mingle and dance around the dinosaurs.
