Nestled between the Museum District and the Texas Medical Center, Hermann Park is one of the city's green treasures and this sprawling 445-acre expanse boasts many treats. The Houston Zoo can be found lodged in the very middle of the park, and you'll find the Museum of Natural Science as well as a plush Rose Garden on the Northern-most borders, as well as Miller Outdoor Theater, home to free performances year-round, a Japanese Zen Garden and the Pinewood Cafe next to the lake. Hermann Park is a well-manicured landscape where ponds and reflecting pools are home to families of ducks and geese; these and other wildlife can be observed just by strolling one of the many gravel paths that intertwine throughout the entire area. For a lazy or romantic afternoon on the water, try one of the lake's pedal boats, or stroll in search of the many sculptures. When you tire of the outdoors, head over to the nearby Hotel ZaZa for drinks on the patio which overlooks magnificent fountains.
The full size, eighteen-hole golf course is considered to be one of the city's finest and most challenging.
