There's hope yet
Where Vince Young ranks among all-time NFL busts
Disclaimer: I love me some VY. With sound bites like this, how could you not?
But no amount of Vince Young-isms could save the beleaguered quarterback from his scheduled February release from the Tennessee Titans. We've no doubt Young will get picked up, but we fear it won't be as a starter. Is our Texas champion destined to be relegated to a club of could've beens like Ryan Leaf, Andre Ware and Akili Smith?
Leaf famously battled Peyton Manning for the Heisman before being drafted second overall by the San Diego Chargers, where he threw just 13 touchdown passes to 33 interceptions. The University of Houston's Ware got drafted seventh overall by the Detroit Lions, but only completed 83 of 161 passes in four seasons. Smith got drafted fourth overall by the Bengals, but only started 17 games in four years.
Young's stats aren't nearly so damning, (certainly not as bad as his Wonderlic score or his off-field and even on-field antics), and we think there's hope yet.
Titans coach Jeff Fisher's future with the franchise is also uncertain, and Young has already said that he blames his release on his coach's skepticism.
Clearly, questions remain about the future of the Titans and of Houston's own Vince Young — questions that I know won't rest until we see them addressed on the Chris Johnson Show. CJ?
