Good food; thoughtful talk
Lively brunch bunch covers the serious topic of AIDS prevention
La Griglia isn't normally open for Sunday brunch. But the fashionable restaurant recently opened its doors for a group with a serious topic: AIDS prevention.
The LIVE Consortium, an HIV education, support, research, and advocacy group, hosted the gathering for nearly 200 guests who sipped mimosas and bellinis, feasted on a brunch that included proscuitto and fig crostini, gazpacho, grilled salmon and a dazzling array of desserts while DJ Chad Guidry spinned tunes, and listened to speakers talk about the importance of being tested for the AIDS virus and ways to give emotional support to friends with HIV.
Beau Miller, the founder and president of LIVE Consortium, welcomed guests, including University of Texas Health Science Center's Dr. Michael Ross, Dr. Chris Souders, Tripp Carter, Ted Bowen, Juven Jacob, Craig Laskowski, Greg Moye, Angel Rios, Shannon Hall and Marcus Sloan. Attendees pledged to get tested within 30 days and talk about their experience with close friends.
