Acclaimed Houston confectioner's sweet news for chocolate lovers, plus our trip to Clark's Oyster Bar
On this week’s interview episode of “What’s Eric Eating,” Dany Kamkhagi joins CultureMap food editor Eric Sandler to discuss Mostly Chocolate. Started by his parents, Kamkhagi now leads the family owned business that produces a wide array of chocolate confections.
The conversation begins with Kamkhagi explaining how his mother started selling her homemade chocolate to friends. He joined the business full time after being inspired by European chocolatiers. Now, he leads a team of four and has won multiple awards at the RodeoHouston’s annual Best Bites competition.
Sandler asks Kamkhagi about his goals for the business. “We’re focusing on maintaining growth. Most importantly, keeping the quality of the product that we’re making, which is so important. Chocolate has skyrocketed. Everything has gotten more expensive, but we hold firm. That’s what sets us apart.”
Listen to the full interview to hear about Mostly Chocolate’s plans for the holiday season and about its monthly subscription boxes that allow the shop to test new flavor ideas.
In this week’s news episode, Sandler and co-host Felice Sloan catch up on all the latest happenings. Their topics include: La Griglia moving from its location in River Oaks; Relish Restaurant & Bar opening a second location in Town & Country Village; and the new culinary talent that’s joined The Original Ninfa’s.
In the restaurant of the week segment, Sloan and Sandler discuss their recent meal at Clark’s Oyster Bar, the Austin-based restaurant that just opened in Montrose. They conclude by discussing how Clark’s compares to some of Houston’s other new seafood restaurants.
