Local Foods' bigger, better Galleria location opens with covered patio and more wine
The team behind Local Foods is having a busy week. Fresh off the opening announcement for Maximo, the company’s modern Mexican restaurant in West U., comes word that Local Foods’ new location at 1709 Post Oak Blvd is now open.
First announced last year, Local Foods closed its Tanglewood location to move about a mile east to a larger space in Post Oak Plaza, the shopping center at the corner of San Felipe and Post Oak that’s home to Kenny & Ziggy’s, il Bracco, Nando’s Peri-Peri, and others.
The larger, 3,300-square-foot restaurant comes with a number of improvements, including a massive, 1,100-square-foot covered patio. Designed by Austin-based architect Clayton Korte and Brittany Vaughan of Garnish Designs — the woman who also created the interiors for sister concepts Eau Tour, Lees Den, and Maximo — the new location follows a similar color scheme and layout as Local Foods’ locations in the Heights, Upper Kirby, and Rice Village.
“We look forward to this new, bigger-and-better location,” Local Foods owner Benjy Levit said in a statement. “It’s the perfect spot for area-residents, shoppers, and those who work in the area to come enjoy lunch, happy hour, dinner, or weekend brunch with more dining space, a scenic covered patio, and easy parking.”
Diners will find Local Foods’ familiar menu that includes fan favorites such as the Crunchy Chicken Sandwich, Harvest Salad, and Green Chili Chicken Posole. They’re joined by new items that include:
- Charred spring asparagus with gouda, Dijon vinaigrette, and pistachios
- Jumbo shrimp, burrata and heirloom tomato salad with salsa crudo
- Blackened tuna with quinoa, blueberries, and avocado
- Dark chocolate-peanut butter swirl cookies

In addition to sandwiches, it serves entrees that include a local catch of the day, a bistro steak, roasted half chicken, veggie lasagna, and a self-described “damn good burger.” Weekend brunch service will feature mimosas, traditional breakfast fare, and “seafood-driven egg dishes.”
On the beverage side, the new location offers more wines. Seasonal cocktails include Sangria with Cinzano Bianco vermouth, lime juice and thyme simple syrup; Lillet and Tonic with lime, mint, and elderflower tonic; and a Cappelletti Spritz with Cappelletti Aperitivo, Brut sparkling wine, Topo Chico, and an orange slice garnish.
Local Foods is one of a few new restaurants coming soon to Post Oak Plaza. Los Angeles-based ramen shop Rakkan Ramen and Austin-based taqueria Tacodeli will also open at the development this year.
Hours of operation are 10 am - 8 pm daily.
