Houston chefs with NYC cred roll out new pastry and sandwich shop in EaDo
A fresh new options for pastries, coffee, and sandwiches has debuted in Houston. EaDough Pastries & Provisions opened recently at 3204 Polk St.
As its name implies, EaDough is located at the east end of EaDo along the Columbia Tap Rail hike and bike trail inside Blackwater Coffee Roasters. It’s the first concept for Nitecap Hospitality, which next year will open Auden, a vegetable-forward, globally inspired restaurant, in the Autry Park mixed-use development.
Pastry chef and co-owner Kripa Shenoy brings experience from New York City restaurant Marea, which recently held one Michelin star and earned the 2010 James Beard Award for best new restaurant in America. Executive chef Kirthan Shenoy, a native Houstonian and Kripa’s husband, also worked for chef Michael White at Marea and Al Fiori.
Together, they’ve developed a to-go cafe that serves coffee and pastries in the morning and sandwiches in the afternoon. Kripa produces a lengthy list of sweet and savory items that includes croissants, scones, muffins, and brioche cinnamon rolls. Kirthan has created a tidy menu of five sandwiches:
- EaDough Burger: Rosewood Farms' Wagyu topped with tomato jam, dijonaise, and Cheddar
- Grilled Chicken with chipotle aioli, Munster, and grilled onions
- Caprese: a vegetarian sandwich with marinated tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and sage pesto
- Inferno: Procuitto di Parma with Calabrian chili-cream cheese, balsamic, and arugala
- Potato Panisse: spiced chickpea fritter with cilantro-chimichuri roasted shishito, pickled red onion, and cashew queso (vegan)
“When we moved from New York to Houston in 2020, we dreamt of finding the perfect place to house our concept,” Kripa Shenoy said in a statement. “We knew we wanted to start small and deliver an amazing product. We searched high and low for the right space, the right neighborhood. We didn’t have it named until we found EaDo.”
