The Cocktail Chronicles
Top Houston bartender brings the heat to this bourbon concoction
With a name like Autumn Twilight, you might not expect this drink to have a kick. But something spicy lurks inside the bourbon concoction from Houston bartender Harold Madison.
In this episode of Old Forester's Cocktail Chronicles, Madison shows how cayenne pepper can really heat up a drink that's otherwise the embodiment of fall. So grab some apples, oranges, maple syrup, and a cinnamon stick to follow along, then re-create this surprisingly zesty recipe on your own.
Autumn Twilight
Yields 1 drink
2 ounces Old Forester Bourbon Whisky
.05 ounce ginger liqueur
1 dash angostura bitters
.05 ounce Grade B maple syrup
.25 bar spoon cayenne pepper
1 apple slice
1 cinnamon stick
1 orange peel
Place apple slice in mixing glass and muddle. Add bourbon, ginger liqueur, bitters, and maple syrup.
Add ice and stir. Add cayenne pepper and continue to stir.
Strain and then fine strain into rocks glass. Add ice and garnish with cinnamon stick and orange twist.
