November is here, so let the Eating Season begin. Need a lunch or dinner recommendation? Here’s where you should eat right now in Houston.

    Cove
Haven is the latest place in town to unveil the restaurant-within-a-restaurant idea with Cove, a new seafood concept helmed by chef de cuisine Jean Philippe Gaston. The 35-seat bar area features a menu almost entirely of seafood, where nothing is cooked.

Think of it as a raw bar with an international flair: crudos, cebiches, carpaccios, tiraditos and more.

    Cottonwood
I hate the term gastropub, but I do enjoy me some Cottonwood. The new Garden Oaks go-to spot has a little something for everyone: A fantastic list of beers on tap, live music, a gaming patio, the coveted casual-yet-polished atmosphere and an enticing menu of gourmet comfort food.

    Pork belly corndogs? Yes, please.

    Burger Guys Downtown
Next time you’re jonesin’ for one of those brilliant burgers from beyond the beltway, stop by the Burger Guys' new outpost downtown, which replaced Korma Sutra on Main Street. These giant two-handers feature juicy patties, rich with flavor and crowned creatively with fresh toppings.

To meld with the downtown vibe, the new place also offers super salads and homemade ice cream.

    Breakfast Burritos Anonymous
It was only a matter of time before a mobile breakfast unit popped up, and here it is. You’ll find Breakfast Burritos Anonymous at Inversion on Montrose on weekday mornings.

While the build-your-own tacos and burritos are the most popular items, we sure liked the breakfast egg sandwich with sausage and caramelized onions on Texas toast. Mmmmm, Texas toast.

    Southside Espresso
Choosing a favorite coffee destination is even harder these days thanks to Southside Espresso. Look for it next door to Uchi on Westheimer (though the store faces Grant Street), and stop by for a dy-no-mite cortado and a pastry.

Southside is open from 7 a.m. to midnight daily and offers free Wi-Fi. Beer and wine will be added to the menu when the permits are finalized in a week or two.

    Doshi House
I love the recent landslide of health-conscious eateries in Houston. Included among them is Doshi House, a wholesome new vegetarian restaurant and gallery space in the Third Ward.

It’s an ideal spot for a coffee and a blueberry muffin, both of which are top notch. Or opt for the delicious lentil soup, worth-a-try samosa panini, and wonderfully Zen hibiscus agua fresca.

    Gratifi Kitchen + Bar
While one healthy grill opens, another drops the moniker. Ziggy’s Healthy Grill (on Fairview) has changed its name to Gratifi.

While the American bistro menu hasn’t changed much, the revamped brand is a reminder that meals there are satisfying and serene. Look for beer tastings coming soon, plus two special dinners with chef Randy Rucker for Houston Beer Week.

    Triniti
Esquire Magazine’s John Mariani lists Triniti’s Ryan Hildebrand as one of five national chefs to watch, praising his “breakfast” dish of fried egg, waffles and duck liver. We’re thrilled to see Hildebrand getting some well deserved national attention.

Perhaps you’d like to treat yourself to the new $24 three-course lunch menu this month to see what the fuss is about.

    Provisions
Provisions is still the hot spot in town. If you haven’t been able to snag a seat at dinner, drop in for the newly minted lunch menu. Or if that’s not an option, the back patio is quite possibly the city’s loveliest happy hour destination.

Try the ever-impressive ham-of-the-day— on its own or atop a crusty pizza with ricotta and arugula.

Somewhere with a fabulous pumpkin dish
Along with sparkling weather, Fall brings a landslide of great pumpkin dishes. Take this month to sample your favorites (and be sure to report back).

Start with the shockingly good Pumpkin Burger at Hubcap Grill. Follow it up with Fat Cat Creamery's pumpkin spice ice cream, a pumpkin whoopie pie from Fluff Bake Bar and the pumpkin spice martini at Kiran’s.

Houston's most pretty-in-pink restaurant quietly closes in Upper Kirby

You'll see a lot of pink at PostScript.

PostScript, Upper Kirby’ posh pink restaurant, has quietly closed, CultureMap has learned.

Although the restaurant is still accepting reservations on OpenTable — and is, as of this article’s publication, listed as open on both Yelp and Google — reports circulated on social media this weekend that it had abruptly canceled diners’ Mother’s Day reservations. In addition, its dining room in the Shops at Arrive mixed-use development has been emptied of furniture.

[Update: After the publication of this article, PostScript's management provided CultureMap with the following statement:

We are saddened to announce the closure of PostScript HTX.

We sincerely thank our patrons for their loyalty and support. It has been an honor to serve you and be part of your special moments. The people and culture in Houston are first class. We wish you all the best and hope our paths cross again in the future.]

PostScript opened with considerable fanfare in February 2024. Owners Veeral Rathod and Obi Ibeto, brought their experiences as partners in the Dallas-based GAP Hospitality to the project, which operates establishments such as XOXO Dining Room, Lyla, and Drai’s Dallas. Particularly inspired by XOXO Dining Room, they created an ode to pink that included pink exterior and interior walls, a pink quartz bar, and a pink grand piano. “Push for Champagne” buttons added to the lively spirit.

Chef Bryan Caswell created the menu. Best known for his pioneering Gulf Coast seafood restaurant Reef that closed in 2019, Caswell’s menu included fried chicken with hummus, oysters three ways (raw, roasted, and fried), a sushi roll, and the double smoked pork chop that was a Reef staple. A doughnut topped with caviar became a customer favorite.

Since Caswell was only consulting on the project, he left a couple of months after opening. Latuli, Caswell’s new Gulf Coast-inspired restaurant in the Memorial area, is expected to open soon.

CultureMap has reached out to PostScript via email, phone, and Instagram message for comment on the decision to close the restaurant. We will update this article if they reply.

PostScript’s closure follows that of Cru, which ended a 13-year run in December 2024. On the other hand, Kira, a sushi hand roll concept from Houston’s Comma Hospitality that’s also located in the development, is thriving, having earned the No. 4 spot on Texas Monthly’s list of the state’s best new restaurants. The development is also home to beloved Indian restaurant Pondicheri, an outpost of the steakhouse chain Eddie V’s, and top tier Houston shopping destination Tootsie’s.
