How do I love thee, you sweet little delights? Let me count the ways.
I love Moeller's petit fours for their delicate, featherweight form. For their sugary beauty. For the mouth-watering memories they engender long after the final bite is taken.
This love affair ignited years ago when the famed bakery was located in Rice Village. I went on the recommendation of friends for yeast rolls. I came out with half a dozen petit fours that were simply too pretty to resist. It was love at first bite.
Sweet but not cloying. Moist to just this side of gooey, my favorite consistency. A delicate icing that crunches slightly as your teeth sink in. What more could a sweet tooth ask for?
Chocolate or vanilla? Vanilla is first choice. But chocolate is such a close second that I simply can't get one without succumbing to the other.
It's not something that I indulge in very often, but when I do, it's a Weight Watchers nightmare. One is never enough, never. In the right mind set, four doesn't seem to be too many. But at the current price of almost $2 each, the temptation is somehow less tempting. Thank goodness for small favors.
