Snooze Heights Debuts
Wildly popular brunch restaurant sets Heights opening date
Calling all Heights residents: The time has come to start lining up for breakfast pot pies and pancake trios.
Snooze: An AM Eatery, the Denver-based restaurant known for serving brunch every day, announced it will open its new location in The Heights on January 24. That will make four Snoozes in the Houston area, including the first in Montrose and the outposts in Katy and Town & Country.
Credit for the restaurant's success can be attributed to a variety of factors, including the diverse menu, the reasonable prices, and the relentlessly cheerful service. Expect to wait for a table after about 8 am — even on weekdays.
The 3,800-square-foot location anchors Lowell Street Market, a new development at 18th and Shepherd from developer Radom Capital, which is the same company behind the wildly successful Heights Mercantile project. While the building sports an all-new steel, glass, and wood facade, diners will still find an interior that sports Snooze's familiar orange and blue color scheme and over-sized round booth.
“This new building stands out with a complete industrial look, design and use of materials,” said Snooze vice president of real estate Phil Wreck in a statement. “The Snooze Heights location is in a unique and fun location among historic neighborhoods and bourgeoning retail spaces, as well as a growing food scene and forward-thinking architecture mirroring our original location.”
In addition to the now-familiar menu of food and cocktails, the new location will feature beers from Heights-area breweries Buffalo Bayou and Eureka Heights. The restaurant's three-day, invite-only soft opening will benefit three Houston-area charities: arts organization HITS Theater, pet rescue Friends for Life, and the Buffalo Bayou Partnership conservation group.
Snooze will enter a Heights restaurant market that's growing rapidly. The immediate area will soon be home to Superica, State of Grace owner Ford Fry's Tex-Mex concept, as well as a second location of The Burger Joint. The nearby Heights Waterworks project will be home to a number of new restaurants, including Houston's fourth Hopdoddy, and the city's first outpost of Dallas-based coffee shop Ascension.
Rumors continue to swirl that Snooze is looking for even more locations, where it can spread the gospel of Pineapple Upside Pancakes and the Bella! Bella! Benny. So far, the company's representatives have declined to confirm any of the speculation, but four Snoozes doesn't seem like quite enough to meet Houstonians' appetite for the restaurant.
