Bargain Central: David Peck and Cara Crafton team up for sample sale party
Any time you can get designer frocks for a fraction of the cost, it’s a reason to celebrate. Designer David Peck and hair stylist Cara Crafton certainly thought so and threw a party at Do Bar Wednesday night signaling the beginning of the holiday season and kicking off Peck’s seriously on-sale collection.
The party was just one of the duo’s collaborations. Crafton created her New York Fashion Week hair skills for Peck’s fall 2011 look book and they have also worked together on multiple editorial projects. Both believe in supporting the fashion community.
Peck is holding a sample sale at his studio Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Items are marked up to 75 percent off and nothing is less than 50 percent off.
“David is one of my favorite people in Houston. He’s very talented and a great guy,” Crafton said. Like many at the party, she was wearing a Peck dress, but hers was wool crepe with silk lining, custom-made just for her.
“It all started at Liz Gorman’s dinner party and we have looked for ways to collaborate ever since,” Peck said.
The sale isn’t the only thing keeping Peck busy these days. Next month he launches his spring 2012 collection in New Orleans and next week a limited edition collection that he created for BHLDN debuts at the Highland Village store.
“I was at Coterie in New York and the buyers from Anthropologie and BLHDN were interested in special occasion gowns for BHLDN. I told them we were actually based in Houston and it has worked out in this weird way,” Peck says.
(A concept bridal boutique created by Anthropologie, BLHDN's one-and-only store is in Houston.)
For those who didn’t make the Do Bar fete, Peck is holding a sample sale Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at his studio located at 202 W. Drew. Items are marked up to 75 percent off and nothing is less than 50 percent off. The sale applies online too, frugal fashion hunters take note.
“Once the sale ends, you won’t see these pieces again,” Peck says.
