America's best fair
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo rounds up prestigious national award

It's the third time HLSR has received the award.
Houstonians already know the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a big deal. The annual event draws millions of visitors every year for its three weeks of concerts, the carnival, food, and rodeo action.
Now, Houston's favorite festival is basking in the national spotlight. The rodeo just won the Academy of Country Music’s Rodeo/Fair of the Year Award. It’s the fourth time the event has taken home the prize, winning in 2019, 2022, and most recently in 2024.
The Houston show beat out competition like Calgary Stampede, Cheyenne Frontier Days, and other prestigious multi-day events that showcase agricultural and rodeo life. To qualify for the Industry Award, the fair/rodeo must have a minimum of one country music artist as a headliner, have occurred during the eligibility period, and be in good standing with all professional vendors and help promote country ticket sales.
“We are proud of the legacy the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has built over the last 93 years,” said Chris Boleman, Rodeo president and CEO, in response to CultureMap's request for comment. “It is an honor to receive this Academy of Country Music Best Fair/Rodeo award for the third time and a testament to the dedication to our mission, thanks to our 36,000 volunteers, donors, sponsors and guests.”
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the largest in the country, and has been a staple of Houston life for 93 years. Last week, the event announced it had awards more than $10 million in scholarships to 529 Texas college students.
The Rodeo will return March 2-22, 2026. It will conclude with a concert-only performance by Texas country star Cody Johnson. An announcement of the full 2026 lineup will be made in the coming months.
