Rooftop Cinema Club made Houston history in the summer of 2018 as the city's first al fresco rooftop movie destination. Now, the popular attraction is once again making Houston — and world — history with a new addition.

Houston will be the first city in the world to showcase a two-screen movie theater, as Rooftop Cinema Club Uptown will debut a new screen — smartly dubbed Screen 2 — on March 2, according to the company, with screenings next to the original Screen 1.

Tickets are now on sale for Screen 2's opening weekend, which features two 2023 releases: the goofy and campy M3GAN and the Jane Fonda/Lily Tomlin Super Bowl romp 80 for Brady.

What's new with Screen 2? The new screen features a state-of-the-art DCP projector, with films starting specifically after sundown. (Screen 1 is a solely LED screen). More than just a tech addition, the new screen means fans can catch more releases that are still currently running in theaters, per Rooftop. Speaking of additions, the new screen will serve 186, alongside the 198 Screen 1 seats.

Both screen areas will include the favorite Adirondack chairs (singles) and Adirondack Loveseats (for two). The refreshed lounge area will feature lawn games, concessions and snacks, beer, wine, and canned cocktails — and of course, those killer skyline and Uptown views.

“Houston has always been a special place to us so I am excited to give this vibrant city our first-ever installation of a second screen,” says Gerry Cottle, founder of Rooftop Cinema Club, in a statement. “After working on this project for many months, this new development will allow us to bring new content and opportunities to Houston’s dynamic entertainment scene.”

In honor of Black History Month, the club is screening titles from impactful Black filmmakers and artists such as The Woman King, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Love Jones, and Poetic Justice. Oscar fans can look forward to Awards Week at Rooftop Cinema Club, where some of the best films of 2022 will captivate audiences once again.

New programming includes ‘Women’s History Month,’ which features films by influential female directors, producers, writers, and artists, plus ‘Y2K Tuesdays,’ meant to hark back to the early late '90s/early 2000s.
