Houston's first rooftop cinema reveals totally awesome new lineup full of '80s classics and singalong hits
Spring in Houston sees Houstonians packing parks, patios, and rooftop spots to soak up the sunshine and fair weather. Now, one of Houston’s hottest outdoor venues has unveiled myriad reasons for folks to flock to Uptown Park.
Houston’s Rooftop Cinema has just revealed its May lineup, which pays homage to the ’80s with some totally rad classics. The features include Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Ghostbusters, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Dirty Dancing, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Terms of Endearment, (for Mother’s Day), E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, and more.
With Rooftop fans happily belting out songs in their favorite musicals during special shows, the club has brought back the popular sing-along screenings that include Grease and Bohemian Rhapsody. (While not official sing-along shows, screenings of Selena and A Star is Born are sure to include some audience participation.)
Also new for May is a special E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial event that offers moviegoers Reese’s Pieces, signature red hoodies, and specials on Coors Light. For the perfect selfie or Insta post, look for photo ops of the iconic E.T. bike and moon scene, before and after the showing.
As always, the cinema will serve up movie grub from Good Dog Houston, which offers three dogs: the Picnic Dog, the Uptown Dog, and The Dude. Additional fare includes fruit and cheese plates, frito pie, and chili cheese nachos. Adult beverages include a full bar with craft cocktails, local beer options, and an assortment of wines.
Prices start at $17 per person for a one-person lounge seat. A single person seat with the addition of bottomless popcorn is $20. Tickets for couples, or a roomier love seat, plus bottomless popcorn, are $24 per person. New for spring is a student discount ticket starting at $15.30, with valid I.D. required the night of the event.
Tickets for the May lineup go on sale online at noon Wednesday, April 3. To paraphrase ’80s icon Ferris Bueller (and CultureMap food editor Eric Sandler): Tickets move pretty fast: If you don’t stop and look, you could miss them.
