Lost in the fog: Ship Channel crash does what Occupy Houston cannot — close partof the Port
A portion of the Houston Ship Channel is closed this morning, but not by interference from the Occupy Houston movement.
That same fog that obscured buildings in downtown Houston on Tuesday morning morning also affected visibility on the Houston Ship Channel.
The Coast Guard already planned to close off a section of the channel at 8 a.m. due to the fog (according to MyFoxHouston.com) when the "Charleston" and the "Harvest Sun," two deep-draft motor vessels, collided near the Texas City Dike:
There were no reports of injuries, damage or pollution in the water because of the accident.
The two ships were anchored where they collided, and as of 9 a.m., that portion of the channel was shut down.
Traffic to the north and south of the collision was still moving, but no vessels could pass by the accident site, the Coast Guard said.
Officials are investigating the cause of the accident.
