Tuesdays through December
Everything's better with cider: Take a tour of Houston's best holiday lightswith the Wave
There's something about the holiday season that brings out a little bit of wholesome in all of us, whether it's watching Miracle on 34th Street or busting out sugar cookie decorating skills.
How else to explain the Houston Wave offering Christmas light tours? The jitney service, which spends weekends chauffeuring Houston's PYTs around Washington Avenue and other hotspots, is offering a "Tour of Lights" Tuesdays this month starting on Dec. 13.
Wave owner Lauren Barrash said the idea for a lights tour started last year when Wave patrons inquired about renting the bus for private tours. Instead Barrash offered trips to the public and tickets promptly sold out.
In addition to creating safer lights-peeping, the Wave makes stop for photo ops and riders can bring food and refreshments onboard — what's more festive than a little mulled wine or hard cider when looking at Christmas lights?
This year the two-hour tours leave from OTC Patio Bar on Kirby at 7 p.m., traveling through some of the best holiday displays in River Oaks, Woodland Heights and downtown before returning. OTC is offering happy hour specials for riders for an hour before and after the tour, and $5 of each $25 ticket goes to support the Houston Downtown Alliance and the Houston Theater District.
