United takes pediatric patients & families on a fantasy flight to the North Pole
Though temperatures were still decidedly summery when the United Airlines Fantasy Flight departed from George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Saturday morning, its passengers — pediatric patients and their families — found a winter wonderland upon their return to IAH.
ThinkThe Polar Express, where the train is a United 767-400 aircraft, the trip is an hour-long jaunt around the Houston skies and the North Pole is set up inside of the Terminal C concourse.
There, patients being treated at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Gulf Coast Muscular Dystrophy Association, Texas Children's Hospital and Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital were met by Santa and Mrs. Claus, plus United fight attendants and gate employees dressed as elves.
"The employees went all out with costumes, decorations and gifts to make it a special day for the kids," Mary Clark, a spokesperson for United, told CultureMap.
Recording artist Barbara Padilla and the Atascosita High School Strolling Strings were on hand to amp up the holiday cheer, alongside NFL alumni and Toro, the mascot for the Houston Texans.
