Verde Important
Election Day is here and Annise Parker's a lock, but what about the Hipstrict"pothole candidate"?
Tuesday is the day you've been waiting for, or the day you almost forgot about, or the day you avoided by going to the polls early. It is Election Day for the Houston Mayor and City Council positions.
Though several city council seats are up for grabs, there are few hot-button issues on the ballot this year to draw out the rank and file.
Mayor Annise Parker is expected to be re-elected by a landslide in spite of historically low mayoral approval ratings and five opposing candidates. Several newly-created districts and some incumbent-less ones have multiple candidates vying for open seats.
That includes District C — better known as the Hipstrict of course — council candidate Josh Verde, who "would be thrilled if [he] was known as the pothole candidate." As CultureMap readers know, Verde is also a big backer of the Hipstrict moniker coined by CultureMap's own Sarah Rufca.
Will the high voter discontent bring out the crowds on Tuesday? Have you cast your vote yet?
Check out this video for more on the District C race. Note how the Ch. 2 commentator introduces the piece by calling it the Hipstrict race.
