Loving football that doesn't count
Stalking Tony Romo's new girlfriend & breaking out the tube-top dress: Ah, thejoys of preseason
Every time football season rolls around, I have to get the game re-explained.
It's not that I suffer from memory loss, I just don't really get it. Basketball, I can follow. The same goes for soccer and baseball — I think you'd have to be touched not to know the score there. But I have trouble grasping the positions in American football, the player's roles or why, just when everything seems to be getting interesting, everyone has to fall down and start all over again.
The preseason is a special time for me. It's a time to get reacquainted with the roster, revamp my tube-top jersey dresses (don't judge) and have the game explained to me, for the umpteenth time, with salt and pepper shakers.
I like to be prepared. Aside from bracing myself for our regular season performance, the preseason is ideal for getting back into the swing of day-drinking (if you haven't been hitting up the Montrose Berryhill's Sundays for bottomless mimosas during the off-season). You know what they say — it's easier to get out of shape than back into it.
So on Saturday you'll find me in a brand new, semi-homemade jersey creation, mapping out the Houston Texans game against the Dallas Cowboys at Reliant Stadium with condiments and (harmlessly) stalking Tony Romo's girlfriend, who went to college with me, and just maybe her famous brother.
Where are you watching the game? What are you wearing?
