New late show: Parker enacts emergency water restrictions that make lawn care aninsomniac's game
In response to the havoc wreaked by Texas' summer drought, Mayor Annise Parker has ordered emergency water conservation measures, effective immediately.
Houstonians with even-numbered addresses are now only allowed to water their lawns between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m. on Sundays and Thursdays. Those with odd-numbered addresses may only water between the same hours on Saturdays and Wednesdays.
Parker says that although early offenses will result in warnings, people who refuse to comply can expect citations.
Residents are also encouraged to keep showers under five minutes, consolidate laundry loads and replace old-model showerheads and faucets.
