Pearland Little League team needs funds for family travel to World Series
The Pearland Little League All Stars are going to the World Series. But their families need a little help if they're going to watch them from the stands.
The team is one of only 16 from around the globe to compete in the Little League World Series Aug. 20-29 in Williamsport, Pa. The league pays travel expenses for players and coaches, but officials predict it will cost up to $50,000 for family members to accompany the 12-year-olds.
Already, fundraisers are taking place in the Houston suburb. A pep rally/fundraiser is planned Sunday at the Pearland High School stadium, with doors open at 5 p.m. and rally scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
Radio talk show host Michael Berry and baseball greats Larry Dierker and Craig Biggio each donated $1,000 to kick off the fundraising drive while Houston businessman Michael Plank added a $2,500 donation.
According to a fundraising email, which shouts "NOTHING IS TOO SMALL AND NOTHING IS TOO BIG!", donations are needed quickly because the team will head to Pennsylvania on Tuesday and play their first game on Friday at 2 p.m. on ESPN2.
Donations can be mailed to: Pearland Little League, P.O. Box 1193, Pearland TX 77588. Or check out the Pearland Little League Facebook page, click on the eteamz website that is being updated daily, or contact Alicia Smith at asmith@myinnovative.net.
